EV 12V & Low-Voltage Battery Roadside Help in Atlanta

An electric vehicle can have plenty of energy in its high-voltage traction battery and still fail to wake, unlock, shift or charge because its 12V low-voltage battery is flat. Trustee Roadside Assistance provides EV low-voltage roadside help in Atlanta and Metro Atlanta where the vehicle's design allows. Call 478-202-3221.

Personalized quote before dispatch. Location shared only if you opt in.

Two batteries, two very different problems

Nearly every modern electric vehicle carries two batteries. The high-voltage traction battery moves the car. A separate low-voltage battery — traditionally a 12V lead-acid unit, increasingly a small lithium pack — powers the computers, door locks, screens, contactors and the charge port.

If the low-voltage battery is flat, the car cannot wake up. It may not unlock, may not show a screen, may not shift out of park and may refuse to open its charge port — even when the traction battery is nearly full. In that state, adding energy to the traction battery accomplishes nothing until the low-voltage side is addressed.

Symptoms that point at the low-voltage system

  • The car will not unlock with the fob, card or phone key
  • Door handles do not present or respond
  • The center screen and instrument cluster stay dark
  • The vehicle will not shift out of park
  • The charge port will not open or will not latch
  • The app shows the vehicle as offline or asleep and it will not wake
  • The car displays a low-voltage or 12V system warning before shutting down

How this is handled at the roadside

The correct procedure is vehicle-specific. Some EVs expose 12V jump terminals under the hood or behind a panel; some require a mechanical door release or a hidden tow-eye access point to get in at all; some use a lithium low-voltage battery that must not be treated like a conventional lead-acid battery.

Because of that, we confirm the year, make and model before dispatch, and we do not claim a universal procedure. Diagnostics and service depend entirely on the vehicle's design.

What roadside low-voltage help does not do

Restoring low-voltage power can wake a vehicle so it unlocks, shifts, or accepts a charge. It does not replace a failed low-voltage battery, repair a DC-DC converter fault, or correct a software or high-voltage system failure. If the battery is at end of life or a converter has failed, the vehicle will need a service center.

If the traction battery is the empty one, see mobile EV charging in Atlanta instead.

Frequently asked questions

My EV has charge but will not turn on. What is wrong?

That pattern most often points at the low-voltage (12V) battery rather than the traction pack. The car cannot wake its computers, so nothing responds. Call 478-202-3221 with the year, make and model.

Can you jumpstart an EV's 12V battery?

Sometimes, depending entirely on the vehicle's design and whether the low-voltage terminals are accessible. Some vehicles require a specific access procedure before anything can be connected.

Will restoring 12V power fix my EV permanently?

No. It can wake the vehicle so it can be unlocked, moved or charged. A low-voltage battery that has failed will need to be replaced at a service center.

What is the free tire check, and who gets it?

With a completed paid Trustee roadside service only, the technician can take a quick visual look at your four mounted tires, check PSI and add air to the manufacturer's recommended pressure, where safe and accessible. There's no extra charge for it. It is not a standalone service, not a formal inspection, and doesn't include tire repair or replacement.
