EV Breakdown Myths: Why Running Out of Charge Isn’t the End of the Road
Published by Trustee Roadside Assistance
Short answer
Running out of charge is usually an energy problem, not a broken car. If the vehicle still wakes and can accept a charge, mobile charging can often add enough range to reach a station.
Myth: a dead EV battery means the trip is over
An EV that has run out of charge is often otherwise working. Adding energy where it sits can be enough to get to a charger.
Myth: only bad planners run out
Traffic delays, detours and out-of-service public stations catch experienced drivers too.
Myth: a jumpstart will fix it
A jumpstart addresses the 12V low-voltage battery, not an empty traction battery. If the car will not wake at all, see EV low-voltage battery help; if it wakes but has no range, it needs charging.
Myth: mobile charging is instant and works on everything
Trustee provides mobile Level 2 AC charging for Tesla and many compatible EVs. It is not DC fast charging, and how much range a session adds depends on the vehicle, the time available and conditions — so compatibility and connector type are confirmed by phone before dispatch.
If charging cannot help — a fault, no port access, or an unsafe location — you will be told so you can arrange other options. Trustee does not provide conventional towing.
