What to Do When Your EV Reaches Zero Miles

Your EV Shows Zero Miles—What Should You Do Next?

When an electric vehicle reaches zero miles of estimated range, stay calm and focus on getting yourself and the vehicle into the safest possible position.

Turn on the hazard lights and move completely away from active traffic when the vehicle still has enough power to do so. Avoid stopping in a travel lane, near a blind curve, or immediately after the crest of a hill.

Once safely stopped:

  1. Place the vehicle in park.

  2. Turn off climate control and unnecessary accessories.

  3. Save your exact GPS location.

  4. Check the distance to the nearest compatible charger.

  5. Contact a mobile EV charging provider.

  6. Remain inside the vehicle when standing outside would be dangerous.

Do not repeatedly attempt to drive the vehicle after it has stopped responding. Extremely low battery conditions can also affect vehicle electronics, locks, displays, and the ability to shift into neutral.

Trustee Roadside Assistance provides mobile EV charging for stranded EV drivers throughout Atlanta. Call 478-202-3221 and provide your vehicle information, battery status, location, and surrounding conditions.
